Urban Renewal

Thursday, September 22nd, 2011

A new layer of paint has been added to Southside Park. I think it held up surprisingly well, but there were a few places it didn’t stand the test of time.

The quest itself hasn’t changed much, but things will hopefully seem a bit more alive and human now. Let me know what you think.

Labor Day Labor

Monday, September 5th, 2011

Bug fixes and little updates ahoy!

  • Returning to the Fang’s hideout after killing all the guards should now display the appropriate options. Good catch, BigBellyJarelli.
  • Salvaged items now immediately appear in the list to resalvage. Good eyes, Pete!
  • There are now a “Newest” and a “First” link the profile list. Good suggestion, Vholes.
  • Offhand items are now properly unequipped when you have a cyberdoc remove your cyberarms. Thanks, Sir Cheddar!
  • Corrected an issue where credits you received in your mail wouldn’t update your character pane properly. Thanks for the bug report, Cank!
  • Logging in to a lab computer then immediately back out now counts as walking away and, when appropriate, loitering. Good eyes, DoctrZombie.

And special thanks to Factitious, Mag, Borkman, DoctrZombie, Cryptodynamic, Thrillhouse, and Vholes Piper for some typo finding.

Cheers!

Mail Unmerge

Friday, September 2nd, 2011

Hallo!

We have a few changes going in with the mail system.

The main change is that mail has been split into multiple boxes, pushing the common automated messages into their own boxes.

  • The Inbox, all your mail that doesn’t fall into any of the following categories. This does still include some automated messages, like the ones from gifts, contacts, and events.
  • Sent Mail, which works how it has, but is now linked from the top rather than having to scroll down through all of creation.
  • Gang Warfare, for the messages you get for defending an area.
  • Subversion, for the new messages related to your sites being taken over.
  • And “Mall” for messages from OmniMall about orders being fulfilled. I kept gifts in the inbox because, well, who doesn’t want to know about gifts?

A couple random things to note:

  • When you click “Messages” up top, it’ll take you to either the folder with the most unread mail or, if you don’t have any unread, the last folder you were in.
  • Folders only show up in the list up top if they have messages in them (except your inbox), so don’t panic if you’re missing some options.
  • Edit: Delete All Unsaved now deletes all unsaved from your current folder.
  • All the folders have the send mail interface at the top. I’m not really sure if we want that universally. If it bugs anyone, start a thread on the forums and we’ll see where we don’t want it.

Thanks to the Fop for suggesting this! Let me know if you run into any problems.

Cheers!

Subversion Testing v0.2

Tuesday, August 16th, 2011

The Golden Chip has released a new version of their Relay Code and Subversion Testing.

There are several major changes:

  • More complex and powerful sites now provide more signal.
  • Sites are now more closely linked. When you subvert a site in someone else’s network, you will be able to pick up links to other sites in their network.
  • Relay Code now scrubs any previous holder’s access to the site.
  • If you have Gang Warfare messages on, you will also receive messages when sites are removed from your network.
  • Character profiles now list your Personal Signal.
  • The Golden Chip has created another piece of software which relates into this system, which they’re staying pretty closemouthed about at the moment…

Cheers!

State of the Game (Year 3)

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Metroplexity’s grown another year, giving us a good chance to review the last year and look forward on the year to come. I haven’t done a “State of the Game” in quite a while, but it’s nice to get something a little more concrete than the podcast.

Executive Summary (aka tl;dr)
I learned a lot of hard lessons about how to keep the content flowing in the last year. Hopefully those will bring us Oldtown, some quality events, a slate of Unearthly Items, and a constant flow of little content pieces between the big stuff.

Thoughts on Last Year
We had another good Halloween and Christmas, with the Virus Outbreak rounding out the events list. That seems like a good number of events, although I’d like to get a holiday in the “dry” part of the year.

Cybernetics went in, way ahead of schedule and rather low bug, which I’m really happy with.

One thing I think we really need to work on is the pace of content being released, especially the Unearthly Items. One of my big goals for the coming year is to get those on track. I’d like to see those coming through every month or at least every other month.

I’d also like to continue the trend of splitting time between tiny bits of content and whatever big project I’m working on. That should help a lot with the content flow problems we had towards the beginning of the year.

Thoughts on Next Year
So, we’re headed into the holiday season, so I’ll be putting some effort into that at first. I’m also gearing up for the Oldtown quest, which will probably be my biggest project for the year.

After about two years, I finally came up with the holiday I want to drop in to the “dry” season. Hopefully I’ll get to unveil that.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there were a non-holiday world event as well, applying some of what we learned from the Virus Outbreak. That’s the first thing that’s jettisoned if we’re behind, however, so I don’t want to reveal too much and get people’s hopes up.

Beyond those things, unearthly items, and the small bits of content I want to slip in while we’re waiting for bigger releases… well, that comes up to about a year, I’d say. There’s so much other stuff I’d like to see, but we’ll see what I can sneak out in those bite-sized updates.

The other big thing for this year… maybe it doesn’t excite anyone else, but we’re planning to expand our Con presence, which I’m really stoked about. Last year we did Con on the Cob. This year we’re planning to do Origins, along with scouting out some other types of cons to see where folks might be interested.

Cheers!

Cyberbugs

Friday, August 12th, 2011

Most of these bugs weren’t actually with cybernetics, which had a shockingly smooth launch one the lab opens its doors *pats back*

I just really wanted to say “cyberbugs.” Like who wouldn’t want a beetle with cyberlegs? If nothing else, so you could say “What sort of maniac would put cyberlegs on a beetle?”

  • Fixed a bug making cybernetics grant their bonuses properly. Good (cyber)eyes, Viscerator!
  • Your white list status (or lack thereof) is mentioned in the Leave Gang section of your Gang screen. Good suggestion, Sir Cheddar.
  • Marked some items as equippable properly, thanks to GoldS.
  • You can now redirect shipments if you’re hacking while looking at a mirror or reading a book. Good catch, Mag.
  • Watching ice freeze now properly results in frozen ice. Thanks, Francis Vixen!
  • And some typo fixes from Cryptodynamic, Mag, Factitious, Liasi, Cank, Sir Cheddar, Vholes Piper, and Thrillhouse. Wooo! Go team!

Note that this update is completely unrelated to Metroplex Day, which is tomorrow. You can’t combine the metaphorical cyberbug with a firework to make some sort of giant beetle firework.

Although if you find a way to enter metaphors in the crafting system, you should probably let me know.

Cheers!

Cybernetics!

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

Cybernetics is in. And it’s out a good month before I expected I’d be able to get everything pieced together, so I’m really happy with that.

Just so everyone’s on the same page:
Cybernetic enhancements are commercially available in Oldtown, where the next step of the main quest line will take place.

However, with the right choices you can get access to a cyberclinic early and there a few places you might pick up some cyberware. These early, sneaky things are what went in today. Mainstream cyberware will come in with Oldtown.

Cheers!
