More Tweaks and Fixes

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

Been messing around with the interface some more and fixing bugs from my previous fiddling.

It occurs to me that I should also announce the new podcast questions thread where new players might see it. So…. there’s a questions thread for our next Podcast on the forums if you have any questions.

On the interface tweaks side:

  • Crafting now has the same sort of top bar as the inventory. Thanks for the suggestion, elliotbay!
  • All the encounters from Stolen Artistry should include an option to take you back to your character sheet. Credit for convincing me goes to xKiv and RazielSonofKain. Thanks!
  • The Housing screen will now be available while you’re absorbed in reading the Black Book. Good call, Mag!
  • Your skills list in the Survivors’ Reset board will now be sorted alphabetically if you’re sorting the main view to Unique Skills. Good thought, Amasius.
  • Bouncing to random profiles now only shows profiles that have logged in recently.

Also fixed a few bugs:

  • Items taken out of your inventory by outfits or suites won’t still be displayed on that pageload. Thanks for the bug report, ganymed!
  • Twisted Hounds have been trained to stop eating the “Continue On” options, thanks to ne0x and Joel_Fry.

And where would we be without some typo fixes, this time thanks to Al and Mag.

Cheers!

Inventory Interface

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Put a new coat of paint on the inventory interface today.

  • There are now links at the top of each inventory page for each section so you can shortcut down. Thanks to Xerf for the suggestion!
  • I also added similar links for the screen to add to your gang’s stash and reformatted that page a bit. Good call, Mag.
  • The Gang Stash and Salvage pages now both respect your column settings.
  • Also thanks to Hau for reporting a bug that caused used items to not disappear from the inventory properly.

If the new links at the top bother anyone, feel free to send me a bug report. I can make them optional, but don’t want to clutter the account page if everyone links them.

Cheers!

Dr. Amundsen, Mostly

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Made a couple of updates to Dr. Amundsen’s branch of the Survivors’ Quest today.

  • Decreased the difficulty of the hacking opponents a bit to give that path a leg up.
  • Added a bit of additional information to the quest log for this quest.
  • The choice adventure where you can use recordings won’t even let you try now without appropriate hardware. Hopefully that will be less confusing.

In other updates:

  • Added a Search Again option on target search and its big brother. Thanks for the suggestion, Mag!
  • Also added a “Send Only” option for gang message updates, for you gang leaders out there. Good suggestion, Vholes.
  • Also corrected some typos thanks to Cryptodynamic, Happy Yeti, Vholes Piper, and Thrillhouse.

Cheers!

Happy November!

Monday, November 1st, 2010

Halloween has come and gone, but a few new friends are here to stay (in the Happy Hour). Thanks to Glass for getting that thought process moving.

We’ve also got some other updates:

  • Old messages are now deleted based on how long it’s been since they were read, not since they were sent. Thanks to Morwen for the suggestion.
  • Simple crafting now allows you to use recipes at 0 Energy. Thanks for the bug report, Fashtas!
  • Expanded the quest log for the Slags Antidote quest a bit. Thanks Perrers!
  • Bait Bluegill should now interact correctly with other baits. Good eyes, Mike_Liviar!

Thanks to Cryptodynamic, Mag, Nyther, Antone, Al, Happy Yeti, GoldS, Metro, and Factitious for typo fixes (Halloween and otherwise).

Apologies if I missed any updates. The last few weeks have been a little hectic :)

Cheers!

Spooooooky Tome

Saturday, October 23rd, 2010

Added a couple new tricks to the Tome of Binding. On a totally unrelated note, some of you may have a spooooooky present waiting out there.

Fixed some pretty noticeable bugs:

  • Fixed an SQL Injection (read: very bad) security flaw, thanks to Elias. You rule!
  • Fixed a bug where earthly runs weren’t being recorded for season resets. Thanks for the bug report, Happy Yeti. And for, you know, not killing me :)
  • Corrected some issues with simple recipes. Thanks to Vholes Piper, Al, and DerMagus.

Also corrected some typos thanks to Kranodor, Suuljin, Mag, and Factitious. Go team!

Cheers!

Halloween Address

Friday, October 22nd, 2010

In the interest of catching up our new players (hi everybody!) and getting everyone else on the same page, I figured I’d post about our Halloween festivities.

The Surface
Right now, at Metroplex University, the student body is gearing up for it’s big Halloween bash. With the help of Metroplex’s largest company, Midgard Industries, the student body has managed to contract a major band called Emerald Gift.

Everybody’s got an opinion and almost everybody wants tickets. The student council has decided to channel the latter into a fundraising drive, which you can participate in if you have some credits to burn at the University bookstore.

Halloween and Metroplexity
So, if I have a personal weakness it’s probably that I go all out with the holidays in Metroplexity. I probably should be working on something like new quests or crafting recipes or something.

But even among these holidays, Halloween kind of stands out. It’s where Metroplexity’s philosophy of giving the players as many choices as possible runs headlong into it being an online game.

The choices that everyone makes in the next phase of the Halloween content (starting this weekend unless it kills me) affect everyone, deciding the course of that phase and the final party.

Last Year
Last year, Metroplex University threw its first big Halloween bash. And the players, instead of siding with the student council looking for a pleasant party or the frats looking for a drunken blast, decided to spike basically everything they could get their hands on with Eclipse.

Nobody’s really sure quite what happened next, least of all the people who were there. Something about a student turning into a being of pure emerald fire, a bunch of people getting eaten by bats, a crystalline tree sprouting in the ballroom, and Midgard forces in containment suits dragging everyone out the next morning.

So why Midgard, the University, and one of the survivors of that night are working together to put on a party in the same place with a popular, but mysterious, band… is sort of an open question. They claim it’s to aid the healing process.

This Year
Well, this year the content should be a bit more expansive, with some tendrils reaching out into the world outside the dorms… and might just expand a bit more as folks make their choices.

So hang on for what I hope will be a wild ride for all the right reasons. And if you’re still finding your way around and miss out on some of the nuance, well, let’s just say I tend to over-do Christmas too :)

Cheers!

Con Catchup and Paper Mache

Tuesday, October 19th, 2010

Have a couple of crafting changes, along with some catchup on bug reports from the con.

First off, crafting:

  • There is now a “simple” crafting section. For the moment it just contains paper mache recipes. But that means there are paper mache recipes.
  • Also, any recipe that you know but can’t be used due to a special requirement will say as much. Thanks for the suggestion, Llamaman.

And some bug fixes:

  • Having three enemies in hacking no longer breaks targeting. I can’t imagine where Vholes Piper could have run into such vicious defenses.
  • Corrected an old bug where Hawk would try (and fail) to attack you upon joining up. Thanks for the bug report, TheManStark!
  • Fixed a few errors in the Sewer Hideout with choices giving inappropriate results. Thanks to Xerf and xKiv for reporting those.
  • Arthur won’t try to decrypt the PDA once he’s already figured it out anymore. Good catch, RazielSonofKain!
  • Corrected a problem with the Twisted Raven’s Withering Gaze, thanks to Vholes Piper.

Also corrected a parcel of typos from Metro, Vholes Piper, Llamaman, Metro, TeKRunneR, Argeth, and Tullus. Thanks everyone!

Cheers!

Facebook

Saturday, October 16th, 2010

So, at the urging of some of our fellows at Con on the Cob, we’ve finally made a beachhead on Facebook.

Share with your friends! Share with your enemies who you wish you could beat in Gang Warfare! Or, do what I’ll be doing, and send it to everyone who tries to give you a cow in Farmville!

Once stuff gets set up, it should also be carrying the Twitter updates, for everyone that doesn’t Tweet.

Cheers!
