Seamless Rollover

Friday, October 9th, 2009

Okay, today we get a taste of the real Beta experience. I’ve made a code change that may or may not do terrible things, we’ll just have to see :)

In theory today at the normal time (8 PM Eastern), rollover and the granting of new energy should be completely seamless. No logoff, no blip, no nothing.

If this is messed up, pretty much the only thing that should happen is not getting Energy/Hunger/Body. If that happens, by all means send in a bug report, but you should be fine after logging out and back in.

Similarly, if it lags the hell out of the game or does anything really weird, give me a holler.

I’ve been meaning to try this for a while, but specific thanks to plus4 for reminding me.

Cheers!

Bug Fixes

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

It occurs to me it’s been a bit since I posted the bug fixes. Here’s what we’ve got:

  • Fixed a pair of bugs that were allowing descriptions to leak out early. Thanks Al and Cryptodynamic!
  • In the process of fixing that, broke the description system in several novel ways (my favorite being that you couldn’t see your shirt’s description.) Thanks for the bug reports Cristiona, Edwahd, Nyther, Lord Finisher, Blarghgh, and PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Added some spaces where they were desperately needed. Good call, Ricket.
  • Resolved an issue where the Energy on certain special fights was being charged up front. Good eyes, Lord Finisher.
  • Continuing the theme, broke noncombats while I was in there. Thanks for the bug report, vandamien.
  • Corrected an issue where you could lock yourself out of Mikhail’s reward for the Docks quest if Lo leaves before you take it. Good catch, xKiv!
  • Also fixed an issue where certain hacking sites were giving away Christmas presents. In October! I know, it’s crazy :) Thanks, slyspawn!
  • Thanks to RazielSonofKain and especially Mag for hunting down some typos for me.

Status on what I’m working on is: done with the crafting stuff I was dragging on (about five dozen items, some new buffs/techniques, and a bunch of skills). Next is dialogue for that branch, followed by a break working on other stuff you’ll see sooner to clear my head.

Cheers!

More Updates

Saturday, October 3rd, 2009

Alrighty, have some changes in today.

  • There’s a new ‘Medicine’ category in inventory for those items that where part of the healing retool. There are a few stray equippable items that use the same mechanic (such as the first aid kit), but these are most of them.
  • Stunning Techniques have been reworked so they behave consistently. The short version is that all stuns start on the next set of combat actions. Previously, they were all over the place (with most affecting active players and opponents differently). Thanks to Pyren for kicking off this train of thought.
  • When you select an outfit from the dropdown, it should automatically populate that name in the text field, making it easier to modify and delete outfits. Good suggestion, Rykar!
  • Fixed a bug that was causing onsite hacking to cost Energy twice. Thanks Llamaman!
  • Mikhail now has an appropriate response if you rescue Hel after letting everyone else die. Thanks for testing the corner cases, Factitious!
  • And some typo fixes from Mag and Slyspawn. Thanks!

In an unrelated note, there will be a few items being marked as craftable in the near future that won’t necessarily have recipes with the items you have available. I’d prefer to have a few extra marked now than risk forgetting to mark them properly later.

Cheers!

Updates!

Friday, October 2nd, 2009

Have a pretty healthy list of updates and have been churning on the Survivors’ Quest. If I get far enough ahead this weekend, I might just drop in some of the hacking goodies I’ve been hinting at. No promises, but I’m feeling good about it.

There were enough hacking fixes that I broke them out into their own section (below).

General Stuff

  • Ghoultouched’s scaling now caps at a more reasonable level compared to other foods.
  • Your buy offers in OmniMall won’t show up in the sell column. Thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal and dfmchfhf for reporting this one!
  • The conversation with Dr. Thomas about Hawk bailing on the deal is now only available once. Good suggestion, Wyrd.
  • Buying an over/under for the Third Eye at the Happy Hour will now consistently take credits and take them at the appropriate time. Thanks, Al!
  • We also have a nice round of typo catches from Al and Mag. Thanks :)
  • Hacking Stuff

    • There’s now a “Try Again” option when you don’t overcome hacking defenses, but can still access the target. Good suggestion, slyspawn!
    • Sites granting the mimetic sheet recipe should work properly now. Good job not panicking, Mag!
    • Fixed an issue where hacking targets could have duplicate names. Thanks slyspawn!
    • Also corrected an issue where targets tied to a specific location were showing up in the list. Good catch, llamaman!
    • You can no longer hack at 0 HP. Good catch, slyspawn.
    • Disabled hacking defenses will no longer report back to the main system. Good catch, Argeth.

    Cheers!

    This Week’s Updates

    Tuesday, September 29th, 2009

A fair amount of updates this week. Mostly today, really. I spent most of the week taking a leg of the Survivors’ Quest from “straightforward” to “wee options!”

Two things from the “accidental petition” mailbag:

    • Hawk and Dr. Thomas now have explicit responses to you bailing on their deal and trying to free your friends directly.
    • There’s now a link to clear all of your hacking targets, if you’re so inclined. I take no responsibility if you regret clicking it later.

    A bunch of bug fixes:

    • Corrected some issues with adding new hacking targets to the list. Thanks Argeth and Al for your help sorting through this one.
    • Fixed a craaaaaaazy bug where end of round damage could take out an entire group of enemies when paired with an earlier area of effect attack. Thanks to Mag for his spading and patience while I figured this one out. It was quite the doozy.
    • The character pane should now refresh after encounters that cost no energy (reflecting new locations, effect changes, attribute increases, and the like). Good catch, PaidPiedPiperPal.
    • Hacking encounters shouldn’t give ironic SQL errors when you defeat the defenders. Thanks, Argeth and RazielSonofKain!

Let’s see… SDnanos are now salvagable with interesting results. Thanks, Llamaman.

Also corrected some typos courtesy of RikiTikiTavi, Mag, Caradal, Thrillhouse, Blarghgh, and Al. <3 Cheers! Kinak

    Updates!

    Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

Some fixes today, mostly on the targeting end of things and some bugs that folks have noticed because of it. Kind of interesting to see what shakes out when you expose information folks weren’t seeing before.

    • Killing targets shouldn’t screw up the indicator anymore. Thanks to BeerBuddha, Mag, and RazielSonofKain for those bug reports.
    • Hopefully we’ve squashed the sporadic issues where defenders in net combat would hang on an extra round before dying. Give me a holler if you run into this again. Thanks for the bug report, Rykar!
    • Fixed a really neat bug where certain items were displaying “0 in inventory” incorrectly when using the “Display Listings Only” checkbox in the Mall. Excellent catch, bonbon!
    • The Fractal Understanding effect from the new donation item shouldn’t immediately be taxed Energy as you’re gaining it. Thanks, Rykar.
    • Clicking the same target again won’t hide the indicator anymore. Thanks Al!
    • Added mouseover text to avatars so you can see their names. A suggestion from the forums.
    • Corrected some typos courtesy of Edwahd, Mag, and Argeth.

And that’s it for today. Other than that, I’ve been working on a sweet puzzle in the Survivors’ Quest content. It’s still a while out, so I’ll be dropping in some other interesting stuff whenever I need a break.

    Cheers!

    Updates

    Monday, September 21st, 2009

Alrighty, a couple updates over the past few days.

    • When you have multiple opponents in combat or net combat, you should have a little arrow indicator showing which you have targeted. Thanks to Al for the little arrow indicator and everyone who’s tried to convince me to do this over the previous months.
    • The drones that Officer Stone brings on are now appropriately replaced when you’re etheric. Thanks Llamaman!
    • Officer Stone now stops appearing when he goes into hiding to figure out his next step, rather than waiting until he’s finally defeated. Good suggestion, Llamaman!
    • Fleeing from a Gang Warfare fight will give the appropriate name for the person you’re fleeing from. Nice catch Llamaman! There seems to be some sort of pattern with this week’s bug reports, but I just can’t put my finger on it.
    • While I was in working on the targeting update, fixed an issue where net combat would go all sorts of crazy if you disabled the defenses on the right first. Good job, self!
    • Also fixed up some typos courtesy of Mag, fr00d, and Rykar. Thanks!

    Cheers!

    Attributes Update

    Thursday, September 17th, 2009

Alrighty! It’s been a while coming, but there’s been an overhaul to general attribute usefulness.

    • The way maximum HP is determined has changed. It is now determined by the lower of Strength and Will. In other words, you’ll collapse when either your physical endurance or your force of will gives out.
    • All four attributes now have hard coded uses.
    • The running away system (such that it was a system at all) has been rewritten to give a range of results, stretching to both sides of the current results.

And some other changes to round out the day:

    • Added some new dialogue for Lo if Dr. Amundsen dies before you’ve rescued David. Thanks to Al for the suggestion and Lord Finisher for helping me debug it.
    • Fixed a bug with Chemical Mixture’s delayed damage in gang warfare. Good catch, Rykar!
    • Corrected some weirdness that was causing a second footer (‘Continue On’, etc.) to appear below noncombats in the Slags Maze. Thanks Shirogane!
    • Cable tangles are now appropriately usable, thanks to Mag.
    • And corrected a whole slew of typos from Caradal, Edwahd, and Mag.

    Cheers!

    XP Distribution

    Wednesday, September 16th, 2009

Added another way that choices matter, which is always awesome, and sorted out a little weirdness today.

    • Experience gained in combat is now weighted based on your Techniques used. You should still get some experience towards all four, just more towards the ones you’re actively using. Thank you, Al, for reminding me about this.
    • Special messages from the unearthly coin shouldn’t fall under the “Continue On” options anymore. Thanks, Pyren!
    • The experimental coat will no longer count the buffs it just removed towards the new buff it hands out. Good catch, Cryptodynamic!
    • Corrected the fused sword description to actually describe the fused sword. :) Thanks Mag!
    • Fixed a serious Metros breakdown. Thanks for the bug report, RazielSonofKain.

    Cheers!

    OmniMall Upgrades Servers

    Tuesday, September 15th, 2009

OmniMall has gone through some upgrades and will now remember any item that has been listed there for future searches, even if that item isn’t currently listed or in your inventory. The data began recording today, so items not currently in OmniMall should show permanently the next time they are listed.

There are some other updates as well:

    • Resolves some issues with today’s new donation item. Many thanks to Al, Zelandoni, and PaidPiedPiperPal for helping me sort this out.
    • Corrected some strange issues that occurred when trying to target destroyed hacking defenses. Thanks, Mag!
    • Fixed the link back from the donations page. Good catch, Ricket!
    • Vigilante encounters in the Sewers shouldn’t refer to Fangs’ setbacks that haven’t occurred. Thanks for keeping me honest, Thrillhouse :)
    • Network Scan and Eavesdropping Tools now allow you to see alerts like the Network Interpreter does. Good suggestion, Llamaman and Argeth!
    • Also fixed some typos thanks to Dfmchfhf, PaidPiedPiperPal, and particularly Mag.

    Cheers!
