Bunch of little updates today. Mostly been working on the Survivors’ Quest and exciting server issues, but found time for some updates.
- There’s now better information for the Gang Log about your members finally getting control of areas. Thanks to Mr. Green for making me realize I hadn’t done this already.
- Totally rewrote how Petrol Splash works. It should function as advertised now. Thanks to Harrakan and The Kitchen Sink for their good, detailed bug reports.
- There’s now a ‘Modify Checked’ at the top of your inbox too. Good suggestion, Mr. Green.
- Usable skills will now work properly even if you’re in the middle of changing capitalization or setting your gender. Thanks Sir Cheddar!
- Going through Beta Reset shouldn’t kick you out of Chat anymore. Thanks for the report Mr. Green!
- Typos hunted and eliminated thanks to Thrillhouse, Man Mobile, The Kitchen Sink, Valera, and PaidPiedPiperPal.
Also, in the department of vague patch notes:
- Unearthly coins trigger text was occasionally missing some text, which should be fixed now.
- Quantum Mechanics should now be giving headaches properly.
- There’s now another use for Cups of Joe. Thanks for the suggestion Argeth!
In the background, I’m working on the Survivors’ Quest. There are two big blocks that I can push separately, so I’ve been hard at work on the first.
Also, I was just looking at the old blog posts and it’s been almost a year since Metroplexity launched. August 13th, mark your calendars :)
Cheers!

Little round of updates today, then back to work on the Survivors’ Quest.
- How item use is handled on the back end was changed. Huge thank you to Sir Cheddar for reporting a major bug I introduced doing this. If you see anything else strange with item use, drop me a line.
- The refresh on chat has been dropped down to 10 seconds. If need be, it can go lower, I’m just inching down so I don’t use the server more than we need to. Thanks to Genesis Rhapsodos and The Kitchen Sink for bringing this one to me.
- The quest log is now more discriminating about how you ticked off the Squatter King. Thanks Wyrd!
- Also thanks to Sir Cheddar for unveiling some typos.
Also, I got distracted and *bam* there’s about a dozen new crafting combinations. Hope nobody minds :)
Cheers!

Recovering from the festivities yesterday (yay! fireworks!) and working on Metroplexity.
A few updates:
- If you’re in chat as the daily shutdown approaches, there’ll be notices at the 10 and 1 minute mark. Thanks for the suggestion, Sir Cheddar.
- There is now an account option to make “Metros” appear as an option in your header. Good suggestion, Artie Effham.
- Gang Messages now appear in the edit box if you want to make minor changes. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for poking me on this one.
And some bug fixes:
- Avatars will be awarded appropriately to those first entering Gang Warfare. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink and Zelandoni for helping me sort this one out.
- Private gangs will now appropriately be private (they were displaying if you were whitelisted to any gang, not just that one). Thanks, Olaf!
- Smugglers in the Slags and the University are no longer confused as to who’s where. Thanks for the testing Valera!
- Petrol Splash should now set the other guy on fire when defending in Gang Warfare. Good catch, Starwed.
- Mikhail shouldn’t get really confused anymore when you don’t have any Eclipse in your inventory. Wouldn’t have found it without you, Olaf!
- For some strange reason, PaidPiedPiperPal keeps wanting his Gang Jacket combines to not turn into coffee grounds. Crazy, I know, but I keep fixing them anyway.
Also, a nice batch of typos from DudeAtHome, PaidPiedPiperPal, Argeth, Borkman, Man Mobile, and Al!
Big thanks to everyone for keeping up with bug reporting. I’m plugging away at the Survivors’ Quest. The main quest won’t be ready for a while, but I’ve got some goodies lined up to keep things hopping in the mean time.
Cheers!

Done with Origins and caught up on all the bug reports and typos from over the Con. I’ve got a pile of drop-dead awesome art from Puyo and am looking forward to filling the Survivor’s quest with it.
- Evasion Power is now working properly. Great catch, Starwed!
- Descriptions in the Mall should now come up consistently. Thanks to Man Mobile and Zelandoni for helping me sort this one out.
- Asking the bartender “What’s the News?” no longer costs Energy. Thanks to Jick for the suggestion.
- Extra warehouse security badges are now salvagable. Thanks to Man Mobile for the suggestion here.
- Added some more University-relevant melee weapons, related to armory. Thanks to Argeth for the idea.
- Added a pair of new avatars for the gang warriors out there.
- Also fixed a bunch of typos. Thank you Valera, Happy Yeti, Man Mobile, PaidPiedPiperPal, The Kitchen Sink, and Shademaster00 for the help.
Also, rumors that Midgard was forced to return to its pre-Incident designs for the SD1 drones are completely without merit. Nothing to see here.
Cheers!

Just wanted to post an update about the changes made over the last couple of days. I’ve been keeping up on Bug Reports and plugging away at Survivors’ quest stuff. Puyo’s here, cranking out good arts. Pretty productive week for how little I’ve been at the house.
Couple fixes to report:
- Fixed a bug that was overwriting your hand in combat with bad data. Huge thanks to Man Mobile and Starwed for helping figure this one out.
- There’s now a more obvious, but hopefully not too obtrusive, link to donate. Good suggestion, The Kitchen Sink.
- Dr. Thomas should now be a bit more coherent when talking about the Hammer. Thanks for the note Zeladoni.
- Gaining control in PvP no longer gives you a message talking about how you’re going to get control eventually. Good catch, the Kitchen Sink.
- Also thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal, Thrillhouse, Wyrd, and Mag for typokilling.
Cheers!

Handful of updates, but a quick note before we get to those.
I’m heading to Origins for a large part of the week (Wednesday through Sunday) and doing preliminary work on the Survivors Quest until and through then. So my normal speed of responding to bug reports and posting updates may slow a little bit.
- The $end in award.php errors should hopefully be less common now. I’ve split it up into a whole range of different files, which should make updating it a bit more seemless.
- Return to Chat properly returns you to chat and the last used chat channel is set to your default when you return. Thanks Olaf and Mag for helping sort this out.
- TZR Chipdesks should now function properly as chipdecks. Thanks for the bug report, starspiritgeno.
- There is now a /whois feature in chat by name or player id. Thanks to Man Mobile for the suggestion.
- I finally put up the About the Devs page. Thanks to Wyrd for reminding me.
- Also thanks to Mag, Shademaster00, and RazielSonOfKain for reporting some typos
Cheers!

Open chat is in, including both non-gangmembers and chat between gangs. I’ll get to how you use it in a second.
I hate to even go into it, because we do have a good crew here, but there’s basically one rule of chat: don’t make me sort out drama. Any drama I have to sort out comes straight out of development time, which isn’t something I’m going to get involved with lightly or punish lightly if I do have to. In other words, if you know you’re going to start drama or can’t judge, don’t go into open chat.
Sorry about that, but I wanted to get it out there up front.
Here are the shiny new commands:
- /join channel – Joins a given chat channel. Options right now include open, gang (if you’re in a gang), and gang warfare (the chat notifications you get, can’t be posted to).
- /leave channel – Leaves a chat channel. Same options as above. You can also use /leave chat to get out of chat entirely.
- /which or /where – Tells you which channels you’re listening to and posting to.
- /quit or /exit – Leaves chat.
When you’re in multiple chat channels, a dropdown will appear to select which channel you’re speaking to. Also, messages from other players will be say which channel they’re speaking in.
The Leave Chat link at the bottom has been removed to reclaim a bit of space. So remember the /quit, /exit, and /leave chat commands. You just might need them :)
Other updates:
- Avatars now appear in your profile when other players are looking at it and don’t need to be reset when you change gangs.
- Quantum Mechanics and Walk With The Blind now have alternate ways to unlock them. The old ways are still there and probably easier, but the new ways are what intuitively should work.
- Leaving a gang should now always force you out of gang chat, instead of just not letting you post. Thanks Olaf!
- Ghoultouched no longer turns off when you gain a new skill. Great catch, dudeathome!
- Sailors (well, ex-sailors) freed during the Ship of the Damned quest will now show up in your quest log. Good suggestion, RazielSonOfKain!
- Also, a big thank you to Caradal and Jetalynn for catching some typos.
Cheers!

The basic chat commands are in and seem to be working properly.
The ones in so far:
- /tell, /whisper, /t, or /w – Sends a private chat message to the person named. This does require putting underscores (_s) to replace any spaces in their name. So, Dr. Thomas would be “/tell Dr._Thomas I need some Eclipse.”
- /reply or /r – Replies to your most recent tell. Like all such systems, I wouldn’t suggest using it when you’re getting a lot of tells.
- /em, /me, or /emote – Says things like “Kinak does wacky stuff” instead of “Kinak: does wacky stuff.”
- /who – Replaces the “Who’s On” at the bottom of the chat list.
- /time – Advises you on the current system time.
- /? – The command that tells you the commands so you don’t have to look at this list.
Also corrected some bugs today where Metros was sometimes charging people unfairly. Thanks Zeladoni!
Cheers!

Did some rescripting for combat.
- The most noticeable change is that evasion now displays the amount of damage you took rather than the amount you avoided, so you don’t have to do math to determine the final damage. Thanks to Mr. Green for the suggestion.
- Special Techniques are now run as they’re actually displayed, so you won’t have weird things like getting poisoned by an enemy that never actually stabbed you. Thanks to Mag for pointing out this one was being a bit weird.
- Dynamite now actually triggers at the end of the round as a totally separate thing rather than being cobbled on as an extra attack.
That’s it!
Cheers!

I rewrote chat again, it appears to be doing pretty well now. If you have any problems with it, go ahead and send them in. If it stays quiet for a bit, I’ll start sneaking in the general chat features.
Other fixes:
- The requirement for Pugilism has gone down a bit. Thanks for the feedback and analysis, Argeth.
- Loosing connection (due to timeout or rollover) shouldn’t do the cool nesting thing in the chat pane anymore. Thanks for the bug report PaidPiedPiperPal.
- The Vigilante encounters on The Quad should follow the Quad’s plot line now. Thanks, The Kitchen Sink and Man Mobile!
- Despite rumors to the contrary, shining gang jackets are not fortified coffee grounds. Strange but true. Good catch, PaidPiedPiperPal.
And typos reported by Mag, Argeth, Wyrd, Harrakan, Zelandoni, Lord Finisher, and Pyren. Thanks everyone!
Cheers!
