Multicrafting!

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

By popular demand, multicrafting of recipes is now in.

  • Enter a number in the handy field to perform the recipe that many times or bust.
  • Enter a * to perform the recipe as many times as possible.
  • Enter a ? to tell you how many times * would perform the recipe, if you’re curious. This won’t cost energy or items, but will tell you if you don’t have enough energy or items to perform the recipe.

Thanks to everyone who suggested this on the forum thread and elsewhere. Special thanks to Kingdom of Loathing for the ‘*’ and ‘?’ standard.

If you run into any problems with multicrafting feel free to drop me a bug report or in-game message.

Cheers!

Change to Description Display

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Made a change to the item/skill/buff/technique descriptions so they display in the right hand ‘chat’ pane instead of as a pop-up. If you’re not seeing this behavior, clear your browsers cache.

The original suggestion for this was from Nytmare, but hopefully it’ll also resolve some IE8 issues Crovax1234 has been seeing. If you have any problems with this or it bugs you for some reason, feel free to drop me a line.

Cheers!

Minor Updates and Fixes

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Just wanted to give a quick rundown of the updates over the last few days. Life was kind of busy over the weekend, but really got to crank some stuff out today.

The biggest change on my side that won’t affect people directly is another layer of potential customization with choices. Basically, it’ll be really streamlined for me to add options that only appear sometimes. Which, as you can imagine, allows for some cool stuff. Special thanks to Cryptodynamic and Man Mobile for helping work out some of the initial bugs with the change.

  • Players with a space in their user names should now be able to use the password reset form. Thanks for the bug report, Sir Cheddar.
  • The notification that you posted a gang message now won’t imply you put slashes everywhere. Thanks The Kitchen Sink.
  • Valera’s been poking around and helped me resolve some issues with trying to equip unequipple items and talk to contacts you don’t know. Thanks Valera!
  • Your credits listing on the left will now automatically update when you buy something from a store. Thanks for the note, RBK!
  • There is now a Rest More option at the bottom of the rest page. Thanks for the suggestion, Xkiv!
  • The chess book now only costs 1 Energy (down from 2).
  • Getting dunked in sewage now has a bit more effect than before.
  • And thanks for a bunch of typos fixes from The Kitchen Sink, PaidPiedPiperPal, Metro, and Lester.

That’s it for now. The Gang Warfare updates are coming along nicely. The main batch of content is done, but I still need to do some coding for the new hideout upgrades and new Techniques.

Cheers!

Today’s Updates

Friday, May 8th, 2009

A couple more updates, actually spread out over the last few days.

  • Requesting a shipment from Dr. Thomas pre-reset won’t be delivered post-reset. Good catch, Lord Finisher.
  • Hitting enter in the multi-use fields will hopefully now work in IE6. Thanks for the bug report, A Naked Jew.
  • The caffeine IV energy gain now has a random component that’ll bring it’s energy/body more in line with other caffeine sources.
  • The Spectral Curse should go away properly at 0 Energy now. Thanks PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • Running and hiding (respectively) from the SD1 in the Midgard Warehouse shouldn’t cause hiding and running now. Thanks Valera.
  • And typos in from Cryptodynamic, A Naked Jew, and another couple batches from Metro. Thanks everyone!

I’ve been letting myself get side-tracked a bit with the PvP update and really fleshing things out. It’s taking a while, but I think the end product will be worth it.

Cheers!

Quick Updates

Sunday, May 3rd, 2009

Slipped in a couple of updates while working on the PvP upgrades.

  • Using ‘extra’ rotting journals will now provide some effects.
  • Clearing out a full Chain will no longer lock out adding new chain in. Thanks for the bug report, The Kitchen Sink.
  • Multiple scripts can now run at the end of a combat. Notably, encounters with Spectral Sailors and Twisted Hounds will give the appropriate rewards. Thanks, Argeth!
  • Added links to the Forums from the login and info pages. Thanks for the suggest, Llamaman!
  • The warehouse inventory will now give prototype directions if you’ve finished Larry’s quest. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • First Aid Kits now have a multi-use option. Thanks again to Argeth.
  • And typos from DanBob, Llamaman, Prestige, Jick, and Magnifico.

Cheers!

Today’s Updates

Friday, May 1st, 2009

Have a nice crop of updates this morning.

  • First off, I added a ‘hint’ for what Techniques can advance a chain (thanks for the suggestion Nytmare). If you’re not seeing them, you’ll probably need to clear your cache. I’m curious what people’s thoughts are on this: good learning tool, nice reminder, confusing, too intrusive?
  • The header pane will now autorefresh every five minutes or so (checking for new messages). Thanks to Mag for the suggestion here.
  • Gang hideouts will no longer help you in the Ghost Ship or Beneath the Charnel House. Good suggestion, PaidPiedPiperPal.
  • I changed the method of getting the Brutality Technique slightly. You should see less of them and have more control over how many you see. The Kitchen Sink kicked this off, but blame me if you don’t like the implementation :)
  • The ghost ship should now lock properly after you finish the quest. Thanks Mag.
  • I added information about targeting to the Info page, which was sorely lacking. Anything else that seems like it should go in there, drop me a line. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for the note here.
  • And a heaping helping of typo fixes courtesy of Man Mobile, Metro, Prestige, Mag, and Argeth.

Thanks everybody! I’m going to hide in a hole and bang out some PvP changes. Any feedback on the question mark ‘hints’ (or anything else, for that matter) is appreciated.

Cheers!

Good News and Bad News

Thursday, April 30th, 2009

So, the good news is that I’m going to have a lot more time to work on Metroplexity. The bad news, as you can probably guess, is that it’s because I got laid off. No worries about the server or anything for now, I’ll give an update if that situation changes.

Other than that, here are the updates for today:

  • Resolved a bug that was preventing folks from completing the ‘Ship of the Damned’ Quest. Huge thanks to Mag for helping out with this one.
  • You can now attack the man reluctantly selling bits of his containment suit. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for reporting this one.
  • Problems on the Docks won’t linger empty in your quest log. Thank you, Dannzy for pointing this out.
  • The crafting screens all now mention that they cost Energy. Thanks to Valliant for helping avoid another irritating surprise for new players.
  • In the new multi-use interface, 0 actually means 0. Thank you for pointing this out, Mr. Green.
  • Thanks to The Kitchen Sink, Mag, PaidPiedPiperPal, A Naked Jew, and Metro for pointing out typos and some unclear wordings.

And extra thanks to everyone for reporting bugs, making suggestions, proofreading, participating in beta resets, fighting in gang warfare, and just generally enjoying the game. Always a pleasure.

Cheers!

Scripting Updates

Tuesday, April 28th, 2009

Did a whole bunch of scripting and usability changes today.

  • First off, though, a bug fix. An encounter from the new sidequest had wandered off, showing up in the Slags instead. Thanks to Xkiv for the bug report. Anyone who received the skill from this encounter who wants to try out the new sidequest before their next reset, drop me a line, I can roll that back.
  • Multi-use (including Tear Multi and Sell Multi) are now inline options. Just type in the number and click the button (or hit enter, assuming the scripting works for everyone). Thanks to Metro for the suggestion.
  • On a related note, stolen crates can now be multi-used. You won’t get the blow by blow descriptions, but it’ll save a lot of clicks if you’ve been saving them up. Good suggestion from Twitch here.
  • The reset button in the combat screen shouldn’t force a page reload now, just clear out your chain. Thanks Xkiv for pointing out this one.
  • At the bottom of the techniques page, it’ll now give a total number of Techniques in that deck. Thanks to Yubi Shines for the suggestion.
  • And we’ve got some typos from Metro. Thanks Metro!

Cheers!

State of the Game (April 27th, 2009)

Monday, April 27th, 2009

I haven’t done one of these for about three months, so figured I should outline roughly where things are headed.

First off, we’ve grown into a pretty healthy user base and people seem to be enjoying themselves, which is definitely the important part. The server hasn’t started slowing down, that I’m aware of, or costing an arm and a leg. And we topped over 1000 encounters and 500 items in the database recently, which makes me smile.

Have three short term things that I’d like to clear up before the Survivor’s Quest:

  • Adding the rudiments of in-game networking, including interacting with the Auction House/Mall. This means item trading and starting to apply requirements on newer items.
  • Add another layer of PvP rewards. This means more vigilante encounters, more uses for old coins, and more hideout options mostly.
  • A revamp of the University Quest. Basically, the ganger route is going to have some more content added to it so it’s more equal in length to the normal route. Also, cash rewards from selling Eclipse will be scaled back \to be more in line with the street price of Eclipse for (a couple credits a tablet).

The Survivors quest is a the next leg in the main quest line. It’s a chance to really dig into the existing characters and areas, I’m looking forward to it.

When the Survivors quest goes in, I’m going to be handing out the first wave of Beta Reset awards, then changing the rules a bit (it’ll be a surprise). That’s a change from what I said earlier, but you should still have quite a bit of time to speed run in the current environment if you’d like.

After the Survivors quest I’m going to go through another batch of sidequests, small content improvements, and interface stuff like I’m doing right now. This is where the Asylum gets reopened post Dr. Amundsen.

Once we get that nice polish again, the OldTown quest is next. Might change the rules on the Beta Reset contest again, might not, but I’m thinking I’ll hand out another batch of prizes after each main quest line chunk.

Cheers!

Forgot Username/Password and more

Monday, April 27th, 2009

The biggest update today is the “Forgot Something?” link in the username/password box. Entering your email address there will send you an email containing your character’s name and a link to choose a new password. If you just forgot your username but know the password, it’ll let you log back in with your existing password.

Also, items are now labeled with their requirements for Body, Energy, and Hunger. Thanks to Valliant for the suggestion.

Strange Ore should now only appear once while you’re on the quest. Thank you, Prestige, for the bug report.

The Techniques page will no longer spill out a bunch of errors if you go there shortly after login. Cheers to PaidPiedPiperPal for noticing this one before it go too irritating.

Also, thanks to Argeth, ACM, and A Naked Jew for typo reports.

Cheers!
