While most hackers have chosen a side, either beating back the viral menace or building towards a viral renaissance, others have been applying the lessons of the battle against the virus to their normal goals of subverting as many sites as possible.
Meanwhile, Extract Data and Intercept Data got a bit of a facelift. They now provide better feedback if they’re overwriting data from a previous use. Thanks to Argeth and Elliotbay for the suggestions.
And the for The Tar Pit has been moved back to it’s status as learned from the wilds of the Net as a quest recipe, rather than by experimentation. Thanks to Al for pointing that out.
Also a huge thanks to Kieliszek, Thrillhouse, Mag, Cryptodynamic, Metro, Arkaim, Factitious, and Borkman for helping me hunt down some of my innumerable typos. Keep fighting the good fight!

Just fixing a couple little things here and there. Don’t mind me.
- Resuscitated the inventory screen after breaking it in what assuredly wasn’t an update. Thanks to Samael, Curtangel, and Vordrax for reporting that.
- Also unbroke the Net, ironically enough. Thanks Factitious!
- Fixed an issue where outfit messages about missing pieces were only showing up if you already had all the pieces you possess equipped. Thanks for diving into that confusion, Vholes!
- Flipping your coin, if you know what I mean, should now work in the proper areas before you oust the Fangs, rather than the Sewers. Good catch Arkaim!
- Cleared up some ancient javascript to increase compatibility. Thanks for bringing that up, Llamaman.
- Shining Blade now salvages into its correct components. Good eyes, Amasius.
Also, in non-bug news, I raised the length limit on character descriptions. You can thank Francis Vixen for that.
And fixed up a bunch of typos thanks to Liasi, Rxzambrana, Mag, Arkaim, and Argeth.

Out with the old, in with the new, as they always say. In this case, the old are bugs and typos. And the new are probably more bugs and typos… but different bugs and typos so it works out.
- Added additional feedback about status in the Lo’s Investigation quest. Thanks Kazimir and Jesse!
- Learning deeper poetic truths now gives you a message mentioning the item upgrade. Good suggestion, mr_stark.
- Corrected an error where seasonal reset prizes might get handed out early. Wooo! Go Factitious!
- Roomsweeper now interacts with Shotgun Blast. And all is right with the world. Thanks, Mag!
- Clarified the error message when you try to view an item from someone’s profile that isn’t wearing that item any longer. Don’t worry if that didn’t make sense, but thanks to Argeth for cleaning up that little corner of Metroplexity.
- And fixed up a bug from trading for mushrooms that’s been hanging around since the Docks Quest update. Good catch, Wiegieman!
And thanks to Xerf, Metro, Striper, Argeth, elliotbay, Arkaim, Mag, rxzambrana, and especially Factitious for nailing down some typos.

Between resting and working on Christmas, I’ve squeezed in a few updates.
- You can now retrieve items from Zack multiple times a run (for example, if it spans seasons). Thanks for pointing that out, Al.
- Added conversation options to Zack regarding the seasonal reset rewards. Good call, Mag.
- The OmniMall now sends messages to gift receivers explaining how to get their gifts if they don’t already have OmniMall access. Thanks for the suggestion, Sir Cheddar.
- Fixed a few bugs preventing seasonal reset rewards from being handed out in a timely fashion. Thanks Mag and Factitious!
- Corrected a bug where stuns weren’t consistently disrupting Techniques that depend on their predecessors (like Swordplay). Thanks Xerf!
Also thanks to Xerf, Suuljin, Cryptodynamic, Mag, Factitious, and GoldS for their continued effort typo-slaying.

Added a couple of heavily requested features today and fixed up a pile of bugs.
Features first!
- Touched up the Techniques page. Lots of little changes, but the big one now is being able to delete the Default deck.
- Simple recipes are now remembered between resets.
- Added a ‘lieutenant’ rank within gangs that can modify the gang warfare agendas.
- In a related note, the gang ranks now have clicky definitions like attributes do.
- New resets now include a date when the reset completed and are sortable by time of completion.
And bugs!
- Zack stopped giving out complimentary copies of the Emerald Gift scrapbook when you reset. Thanks for the bug report and the honest, Factitious!
- Sewer Hideout encounters should react properly now if you kill half the guards, then sneak the rest of the way. Thanks Al!
- Location is now properly included in gang warfare messages when you lose control. Thanks for the bug report, Cank!
- Corrected an issue where the game thought all runs were completed on January 1st, 1970. Go Team Unix! Thanks for the bug report, Factitious.
- Hopefully fixed an issue where Techniques based on your hit points weren’t updating midround. Good catch, Llamaman!
And typos!

Halloween has come and gone, but a few new friends are here to stay (in the Happy Hour). Thanks to Glass for getting that thought process moving.
We’ve also got some other updates:
- Old messages are now deleted based on how long it’s been since they were read, not since they were sent. Thanks to Morwen for the suggestion.
- Simple crafting now allows you to use recipes at 0 Energy. Thanks for the bug report, Fashtas!
- Expanded the quest log for the Slags Antidote quest a bit. Thanks Perrers!
- Bait Bluegill should now interact correctly with other baits. Good eyes, Mike_Liviar!
Thanks to Cryptodynamic, Mag, Nyther, Antone, Al, Happy Yeti, GoldS, Metro, and Factitious for typo fixes (Halloween and otherwise).

Added a couple new tricks to the Tome of Binding. On a totally unrelated note, some of you may have a spooooooky present waiting out there.
Fixed some pretty noticeable bugs:
- Fixed an SQL Injection (read: very bad) security flaw, thanks to Elias. You rule!
- Fixed a bug where earthly runs weren’t being recorded for season resets. Thanks for the bug report, Happy Yeti. And for, you know, not killing me :)
- Corrected some issues with simple recipes. Thanks to Vholes Piper, Al, and DerMagus.
Also corrected some typos thanks to Kranodor, Suuljin, Mag, and Factitious. Go team!

First off a couple of updates I mentioned on yesterday’s podcast:
- You should now be able to make it through the abandoned buildings in the Slags Quest without combat. You’ll notice I didn’t say it was easy or straightforward. Thanks for reminding me about this, Wyrd!
- Tweaked the difficulty of a few fights in the revamped Sewer Hideout to more closely match their old versions. Thanks for the feedback, TeKRunneR.
- There’s now a speargun Technique hidden in the most insidious place imaginable. Thanks for nudging me on this one, Mag.
And some more suggestions:
- The Charnel House (first time) should respond a little more cleanly to leaving and reentering the premises. Thanks, Llamaman!
- Errors when sending messages now returns your subject and text. Thanks for the suggestion, TeKRunneR and Wyrd.
- You can now see your day and energy count for your current reset on your character sheet until you choose your survivor. Good thought, Xerf!
- Aqua Regia now works on the Slags Lab doors. Good call, Llamaman.
And fixed some bugs:
- Corrected an error where you weren’t always flagged as knowing about Yggdrasil. Good catch, Llamaman. Added a bit more conversation since I was thinking about it, too.
- Fixed a script running twice on the gang boss fight. Thanks TeKRunneR!
- Corrected some errors with the mushroom folk in the sewers. Thanks Factitious.!
- Sorted out a long-standing bug with the scanners. Good catch, Xerf!
- Special underwater fights now properly stay underwater. Thanks for the bug report, Thunderbird!
We also have some typo fixes thanks to Al, Mag, GoldS, Wyrd, and Argeth! Wooooooo!
And, I’m spent.

- Deactivating alarm in Midgard Bioresearch should work properly. Thanks Llamaman!
- Fighting Shard is no longer a free action. Good catch Factitious.
- Poetry notes now only work on the noted document. Thanks for the bug report, Mag.
- The Golden Chip links back to the net rather than the streets. Good suggestion, Plus4!
- The bauble items (from the Lost Son quest) are gadgets rather than offhand now, to match the switch for Slags IDs. Thanks to Vholes Piper for this one.
- And some typo fixes from Mag, Vholes Piper, Thrillhouse, Plus4, and Borkman.
There are probably some other changes that I missed. If anything leaps to mind, drop me a line and I’ll make sure it gets added.

The Midgard Laboratory in the Slags has had some security updates, centering around their shiny new computer system. Some encounters in the lab have been changed and there are ripples elsewhere.
There’s a lot of cool there I don’t want to spoil, but folks will note that the security on the locker room (such as it was) has changed. So you’re not just imagining things.
Other recent changes include:
- Intercept data now appropriately drops some code. Thanks for the suggestion, bonbon.
- Hawk’s request regarding his errant member in the Slags should now show up in your quest log. Thanks Steaming for getting me on this track.
- Also, we have a ton of typo fixes thanks to Mag, Hotpho, Sir Cheddar, Cristiona, Dennis, Vholes Piper, Factitious, Nyther, and Thrillhouse. Not kidding. There were a lot of typos.
P.S.: There will probably be a bit more Slags-quest related touching up as the Survivors’ Quest looms closer. Nothing huge, mostly just implementing suggestions I’ve let pile up.
