Hallo!
We have a few changes going in with the mail system.
The main change is that mail has been split into multiple boxes, pushing the common automated messages into their own boxes.
- The Inbox, all your mail that doesn’t fall into any of the following categories. This does still include some automated messages, like the ones from gifts, contacts, and events.
- Sent Mail, which works how it has, but is now linked from the top rather than having to scroll down through all of creation.
- Gang Warfare, for the messages you get for defending an area.
- Subversion, for the new messages related to your sites being taken over.
- And “Mall” for messages from OmniMall about orders being fulfilled. I kept gifts in the inbox because, well, who doesn’t want to know about gifts?
A couple random things to note:
- When you click “Messages” up top, it’ll take you to either the folder with the most unread mail or, if you don’t have any unread, the last folder you were in.
- Folders only show up in the list up top if they have messages in them (except your inbox), so don’t panic if you’re missing some options.
- Edit: Delete All Unsaved now deletes all unsaved from your current folder.
- All the folders have the send mail interface at the top. I’m not really sure if we want that universally. If it bugs anyone, start a thread on the forums and we’ll see where we don’t want it.
Thanks to the Fop for suggesting this! Let me know if you run into any problems.
Cheers!

Fixed an absolute boatload of typos this weekend, thanks to Mag, Nyther, Cryptodynamic, Happy Yeti, Llamaman, and Cryptodynamic.
I also sorted out some other errors, like:
- Corrected a display bug where damage wasn’t displayed correctly using Reactive Defense. Thanks for doublechecking my math, TeKRunneR!
- Dr. Amundsen now has a more realistic view of her chances of cracking the PDA after examining it. Thanks for the suggestion, Xerf!
- Black Liquor now works, thanks to Argeth. In other news, Argeth has challenged Cryptodynamic’s position as reporter of all pearl-related bugs ever.
- Practiced Step now displays differently underwater. Thanks Nyther!
Cheers!

Recipes are now remembered over resets. The way this works is very specific, so I’m going to explain it so there isn’t any confusion.
Any recipe that can be learned through experimentation is saved when you reset. Those recipes are then restored when you gain the ability to perform that type of experimentation (so, when you get your electrical kit or learn experimental chemistry).
So recipes that are only learned through other sources (like items or NPCs) are not remembered. And you don’t get chemistry recipes back just because you got a chemistry kit. I included these exceptions to allow crafting to create game-defining items and play a role in the main quest line, so they’re not bugs or oversights.
Other Stuff
- On a related note, recipes you don’t meet the requirements for are now disabled. This mostly comes up with coding, but who can say where its tentacles extend?
- Resolved an issue where multiple recipes for the same end result weren’t displaying. Thanks for the bug report, Ricket!
- Revamped the Undying Heart skill from the new quest. In addition to it’s previous hidden stuff it has some neat new hidden stuff and slightly less obvious stuff. Thanks for the suggestion, Argeth!
- Went through and added some meat to Ghoultouched, including some very old suggestions about it interacting with drones. Also thanks to Cryptodynamic for helping me debug it in PvP.
- Gift messages can now extend to 240 characters. Happy Welcome Backing Vholes! And this should be the last time I extend those. It’s like two whole tweets :P
- We also have some typos from xKiv, Argeth, and Mag. Thanks!
Cheers!

There’s something kind of nice about tiny content upgrades. Good for the spirit, I think.
- There’s now another source for the Ghoul Bite Technique. Thanks for getting me started on this one, Shademaster00.
- One of the side benefits of leaving donation items up for a while is that I can add new things for them to grind… er, do, without feeling bad.
- Targets won’t continue to suffer damage from venom after they’re dead. Thanks, bonbon!
- And thanks to RazielSonOfKain for some typo eradication.
Oh, and I added a new salvage/chemistry item a while back and forgot to mention it. So, yeah, powdered glass… tell your friends.
Cheers!

Recovering from the festivities yesterday (yay! fireworks!) and working on Metroplexity.
A few updates:
- If you’re in chat as the daily shutdown approaches, there’ll be notices at the 10 and 1 minute mark. Thanks for the suggestion, Sir Cheddar.
- There is now an account option to make “Metros” appear as an option in your header. Good suggestion, Artie Effham.
- Gang Messages now appear in the edit box if you want to make minor changes. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink for poking me on this one.
And some bug fixes:
- Avatars will be awarded appropriately to those first entering Gang Warfare. Thanks to The Kitchen Sink and Zelandoni for helping me sort this one out.
- Private gangs will now appropriately be private (they were displaying if you were whitelisted to any gang, not just that one). Thanks, Olaf!
- Smugglers in the Slags and the University are no longer confused as to who’s where. Thanks for the testing Valera!
- Petrol Splash should now set the other guy on fire when defending in Gang Warfare. Good catch, Starwed.
- Mikhail shouldn’t get really confused anymore when you don’t have any Eclipse in your inventory. Wouldn’t have found it without you, Olaf!
- For some strange reason, PaidPiedPiperPal keeps wanting his Gang Jacket combines to not turn into coffee grounds. Crazy, I know, but I keep fixing them anyway.
Also, a nice batch of typos from DudeAtHome, PaidPiedPiperPal, Argeth, Borkman, Man Mobile, and Al!
Big thanks to everyone for keeping up with bug reporting. I’m plugging away at the Survivors’ Quest. The main quest won’t be ready for a while, but I’ve got some goodies lined up to keep things hopping in the mean time.
Cheers!

Just wanted to post an update about the changes made over the last couple of days. I’ve been keeping up on Bug Reports and plugging away at Survivors’ quest stuff. Puyo’s here, cranking out good arts. Pretty productive week for how little I’ve been at the house.
Couple fixes to report:
- Fixed a bug that was overwriting your hand in combat with bad data. Huge thanks to Man Mobile and Starwed for helping figure this one out.
- There’s now a more obvious, but hopefully not too obtrusive, link to donate. Good suggestion, The Kitchen Sink.
- Dr. Thomas should now be a bit more coherent when talking about the Hammer. Thanks for the note Zeladoni.
- Gaining control in PvP no longer gives you a message talking about how you’re going to get control eventually. Good catch, the Kitchen Sink.
- Also thanks to PaidPiedPiperPal, Thrillhouse, Wyrd, and Mag for typokilling.
Cheers!

Handful of updates, but a quick note before we get to those.
I’m heading to Origins for a large part of the week (Wednesday through Sunday) and doing preliminary work on the Survivors Quest until and through then. So my normal speed of responding to bug reports and posting updates may slow a little bit.
- The $end in award.php errors should hopefully be less common now. I’ve split it up into a whole range of different files, which should make updating it a bit more seemless.
- Return to Chat properly returns you to chat and the last used chat channel is set to your default when you return. Thanks Olaf and Mag for helping sort this out.
- TZR Chipdesks should now function properly as chipdecks. Thanks for the bug report, starspiritgeno.
- There is now a /whois feature in chat by name or player id. Thanks to Man Mobile for the suggestion.
- I finally put up the About the Devs page. Thanks to Wyrd for reminding me.
- Also thanks to Mag, Shademaster00, and RazielSonOfKain for reporting some typos
Cheers!

Put in a fairly significant Gang Warfare update today, which I’ll try to explain below. Short version is that defending in Gang Warfare now involves actual fighting and less staring at non-combats.
How It Worked
Once you beat down the previous defenders in an area, you’d gain control through non-combats (which prepare fights for future challengers). Then, after a while, it stops queueing fights and you just get the delicious, delicious benefits.
The Change
Now, when someone is challenging control of your area by defeating your defenders, you need to actually beat them back down instead of just having another non-combat to repair the damage. Assuming you’re successful, you repair the damage just like the old non-combat would.
These new sort of queued fights also can transition over into Control when you take out the old controllers, so you might be able to skip the “gaining control” non-combats entirely.
Why
So defenders in Gang Warfare get to actually fight people rather than hitting a bunch of non-combats. And so that there’s a little more symmetry between attacking and defending. Previously, there was nothing an attacker could do that the defenders couldn’t undo with a non-combat, where now, both sides win or lose in actual PvP.
Other updates for today:
- There were some SQL connection errors which have apparently been resolved by our hosts, but if you run into any more of those, give me a holler. Thanks to Thrillhouse and JTN2002 for reporting these.
- Resolved the PHP errors related to last night’s account preferences rollout. Thanks to Borkman, Lord Finisher, and Hastur the Unspeakable for isolating these.
- Recipes that you cannot complete due to missing components will now have their radio buttons greyed out. Good suggestion, Al and xKiv!
- And also thanks to Jick and Pyren for taking care of some typos for us.
Cheers!

Along with the donations page, I’ve managed to sneak in some other changes and fixes.
- There is now a Completed pane of the Quest Log. Thanks to Metro and razielsonofkain for the suggestion.
- When loading the login page, the username field should get focus automatically. Thanks bonbon for the suggestion.
- Buffs granted at the end of combat shouldn’t decrement right away. Good catch, Argeth.
- On the Docks, the two choice encounters with dockhands (for coffee and armwrestling/fishing pole) have been combined into one. Thanks for pointing this out a while back, razielsonofkain.
- Gangs with quotation marks should now display correctly in player’s profiles. Thanks Olaf!
- The gang description preview should no long display the BRs to go along with your newlines. Thanks for the bug report, The Kitchen Sink.
- Also, thanks to Mag, The Kitchen Sink, Argeth, DanBob, and Wyrd for some typo catches! Yay Typos!
Also a couple fixes on the new University update:
- The quest log for the extended Hawk subquest shouldn’t jump ahead if you’ve calmed down the Quad. Thanks Wyrd!
- When defeating The Hammer, he will not display debug information, as appropriate as that may be for his character :) Thanks Lord Finisher and Olaf!
- Hawk will still be available to talk about your friends after the Trouble on the Docks quest. Good catch, Starwed.
Cheers!

So not sure who put what in my Kashi this morning, but I’m largely caught up on bugs and feature suggestions in addition to pushing the Mall today.
- You can now see your total bonuses by clicking a link from your character page (click your name in the left-hand pane, click ‘See All Bonuses’). These include equipment, buffs, and all but the weirdest skills. Thanks for the suggestion, Al.
- The security guards’ response to you finishing the ‘Trouble on the Docks’ quest for them has been tweaked. This one was kind of a group effort over at the forums. Good feedback everyone!
- OmniTech Trauma Bandages are now a tad more interesting, thanks to Man Mobile and DanBob.
- If your hideout’s smuggler has been used for the day, it now appears greyed out and gives a little feedback rather than just vanishing like ninja. Thanks Jick!
- Gang leaders can now whitelist members from the Leadership screen. Thanks for the suggestion, The Kitchen Sink.
- For players with access to their gang’s stash, the donation screen and the stash screen link back and forth now. Another good suggestion from The Kitchen Sink.
- Finishing off your last opponent the same round you fall in battle should now give a bit of explanatory text. Good suggestion, Tyren.
- A lot of early quest text has been clarified. Thank you for helping shore these up, DanBob.
- The Techniques page has gotten another coat of glossy paint, including better breaks between sections. Shiny! Thanks for the feedback, the Kitchen Sink.
- ‘The Net’ is now loading in the correct pane. There’s some subtle irony here I’m missing. Thanks for the bug report, PaidPiedPiperPal.
- The side pane shouldn’t be erroring out loading certain item descriptions anymore. Good find, Canadaman!
- Also, special thanks to Mag, Man Mobile, and Canadaman for catching some of my typose.
Have a good night everyone.
Cheers!
